From the french traduction that i have read “car la fortune est femme, et il est nécessaire, pour la tenir soumise de la battre et de la maltraiter”

      Or

” Because luck is like a women , it’s necesary, to keep her submisive , by beating and mistreating her.”

      He was such a gentlemen.

never ask a man from before 1900 what his opinion is on women. You get some decent guys in there. But good lord these motherfuckers are so absurdly sexist.

    3. He was married and had seven children, so it’s unlikely that he was motivated primarily by lack of sexual access to women.

    4. I mean that’s not at all what he’s saying here. He’s reflecting on Livy’s story of a town called Ardea which fell to chaos after a dispute about who should marry an heiress became a point of political division between the Plebian and Patrician classes. His point is that male rulers shouldn’t ignore “women’s issues” like the aforementioned marriage dispute because they can easily become political problems if left to fester. He’s not blaming women for anything. He’s just pointing out that they matter more than some men realize.

    5. Machiavelli didn’t invent politics, he just stopped pretending it was nice 😂
