Trump almost fell into the same trap before one of his advisors reminded him that Turkey is part of NATO and Azerbaijan borders Iran.
Edit: Why the down votes? I actually support the Kurds (and don’t like Trump), but it would have absolutely caused the disaster in Iran to get worse. The Kurds and Turks would be fighting each other in North Iran.

The fuck does Israel have to do with it?

I almost choked on my coffee when I saw a headline that said the Kurds are eager to operate in Northern Iran to get their own autonomous state. Third time’s a charm for our loyal meat shields.

Why didn’t Sykes-Pikot give the Kurds their own state?

The KRG is not an independent country but I hear things are quite normal there nowadays notwithstanding the war and bombardment by Iran and Iraqi militias recently
Usually there’s good ties with Turkey, Turkish investment and it’s where a lot of western countries’ bases are located

Replace Saddam with Daesh and it’s the same joke but for the 2010s.

Somehow, I remember quote by Kissinger (may him rot in hell)
>To be an enemy of the US is dangerous, to be a friend is fatal
Just curious: how many times the US (and their homies) have broken promises to the Kurds?

People are talking about the Kurdish people…great people, tremendous people, very brave, everybody says it. Fantastic fighters. Really incredible. Some of the best fighters, maybe *the* best, frankly. We love them. Great friends of ours. Suddenly everyone’s an expert on the Kurds. Amazing how that happens, right? Just amazing.… before last week? Never heard of them. Nobody had.

What does Israel have to do with the 2003 Iraq War? Hell, PM Sharon wasn’t in favour of it. While Israel supports Kurdish independence, they have little ability to help achieve it.

I mean the KRI is fairly independent from Irak central government.
İts a shame that the KRG wanted to archieve independence but denied other folks the same rights that were given to them.
To anyone that didnt know: when it came to vote on wether Turkmeneli should become an autonomous region like the KRG, the KRG voted against that.
İn response Turkey turned on the KRG and withdrew support and cooperations with the KRG. They had been supportive prior.

Israel was opposed to the US invasion of Iraq and advised against it… Pretty well documented at this point. But I guess the “cool thing” to do in 2026 is to blame Israel and the Jews for everything.

I mean after getting defacto independence in 1991 in 1994 they began killing each other then one faction invited saddam’s army back in so I’m not sure they were ready for actual independence
Besides That they basically achieved maximum autonomy from Iraq enshrining it in the constitution so I’d say they did good

WTF is this antisemitic bullshit? This is just a Star of David, not even an Israeli flag, which would also make zero sense since Israel clearly opposed the 03 Iraq war and has been a long time supporter of an independent Kurdistan? But of course the Jews are to blame as always… fucking unbelievable

We (the world) should just give them Turkey.
Nothing would be lost, and possibly a lot could be gained.

At what point did Israel have a say when it came to Kurdish aspirations in Iraq? Israel was deliberately kept out of the anti Saddam coalition and told to suck it up when it came to Scud attacks. The only one who betrayed the Kurds is sadly the USA at the behest of the Turks.

Also fought the IS and the Turks in Syria.
İ mean if the KRG hadnt [antagonized and oppressed](https://www.refworld.org/reference/countryrep/mrgi/2017/en/104959?__cf_chl_tk=HwjYL505U4ZtKUIMpelnQ_8SQgTmjj0T3seHfDBpVgA-1772635252-1.0.1.1-283k3aqhUjQExkLkaVmvScrEeC1iQkRPHu2pY8JiICQ) the iraqi Turkmens in turkmenelia then Turkey probably would’ve approved of their statehood and they would’ve gotten the support they needed.
