One of these days, I ought to gather up a collection of these oddball recipes and try them out.

    1. Honestly? This doesn’t seem all that bad. I’ll eat savory pie pretty happily, and although I’m not the biggest fan of Spam, I don’t mind it

    2. So it’s like a quiche, with spam? It could be much worse. You could totally take the idea of this and make it much better, fresh vegetables maybe. Fried spam all nice and crispy on the edges is way better than baked

    3. During the deep pandemic times the midday news program on WGN did exactly what you described. One of the SPAM recipes was a huge hit!

    4. If I’m making a pie crust, I’m not going to waste it on this abomination.

    5. My dad loved his canned meat. I feel like he would definitely have made this if he’d seen it.

He got egg & Spam. Egg bacon & Spam. Egg bacon sausage & Spam. Spam, egg, Spam, Spam, bacon, Spam, Spam, sausage, Spam, Spam, Spam.

    7. OP, it sucks that you’re being downvoted for your *opinion.* The people who love SPAM…fine…eat aaalll you want. I never liked it; one early memory was my mother opening a can. It had this gelatinous stuff on the side. As a little kid, it looked gross, so I didn’t eat it.

When I lived in San Antonio, I had a neighbor named Josefa. She would sear it, slice it thinly, then wrap it in a flour tortilla. It was the only way I could eat it.

I’ve seen significantly worse recipes from that era and it’s not even close.

    9. i mean, this doesn’t look as bad as some of the recipes they were throwing around back then (and I don’t care for spam either). so many things in jello that should not be put in jello.

    10. Not sure what the issue is. It’s a quiche with processed ingredients instead of fresh.

Looks like a pot pie with decorative spam on top, kinda pretty! Bet it would have been popular at dinner parties.

Eh , I’d eat it. My mom made stuff like that. I love Spam just can’t take that much sodium these days

Because fresh meats and such weren’t as common back then, so to sell products with longer shelf lives companies had chefs make recipes using these products. Plus, post WWII the US loved Spam. It was a symbol of winning the war.

    14. what surprises me about this is Spam, by Hormel, in a Pillsbury recipe. as far as I know Spam has always been a Hormel product and Hormel never owned Pillsbury, usually these promotional recipes are all products available from the company producing the recipe

(googles) was Veg-All not Pillsbury either? strange…maybe the corporate synergy rules were relaxed for Pillsbury Bake-Off
