Jørgen Jørgensen was a weird guy who tried to take over Iceland as it’s “Protector”, this was the Napoleonic Wars so Denmark had lost most of its fleet which meant that they could no longer supply Iceland, Norway, and Greenland. Jørgensen saw this and had the bright idea of sailing there and taking over the island. On his second expedition there, he proclaimed himself as “Protector” after besieging the Governor’s house and imprisoning him. Despite his forceful takeover, the people of Iceland went along with him and were supportive of this revolution. He ruled Iceland for two months before the British came over and arrested him.
