They probably got a physical copy before the official release date. As a kid i bought Smackdown vs Raw before it was in the stores. The guy owned a flea market stall and bought directly from distributors. “for sale only from x/y/z” doesn’t mean a thing if money can be made. One privately owned gaming store did it aswell until an inspector showed up and fined them. From then on they only got their games during the week of release.
These days there are first day updates to prevent this but some people still find a work around
