I’ve noticed this pattern a lot (and experienced it myself).

You feel highly motivated on day 1.
    Still going on day 2.
And then by day 3, it starts fading.

    Tasks feel heavier.
    You feel less interested.
And it becomes easier to stop.

For a long time, I thought this meant I lacked discipline.

But now I think it’s just how motivation works.

Motivation is emotional and temporary. It’s not designed to carry long-term consistency.

What seems to help more is having small, simple systems:

    • Clear next steps
    • Low effort starting points
    • Habits that don’t depend on mood

Curious how others deal with this:

Do you rely on motivation, or do you build systems to stay consistent?

    1. Something that helped me stay on track is setting up tiny habits where failing is almost impossible, like just opening the doc or doing two pushups. I also have a weird trick of putting my shoes or whatever I need out the night before. Relying on motivation never worked for me past week one.

Also maybe not what you’re asking but I actually built a little accountability companion that checks in with calls or on WhatsApp. It remembers what you’re working on and can nag you or encourage you when you want. Can’t link here but there’s more in my bio if you want.

    2. I think it’s about novelty. When you begin at first, everything is new and feels good. Just like it feels good to scroll and get new information (even if that information is garbage level).

But as novelty fades and routine sets in, the buzz of excitement is no longer there. So for long term learning of any kind, one cannot depend purely on excitement/motivation.

I think this video offers a good explanation: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFI3DcUt7xk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFI3DcUt7xk)

I find this actually important, and i started a youtube channel on this concept (not gonna share it here), but even with that channel i find it hard to keep going now that im like 2 weeks in. But i want to keep going, even if just for me reminding myself i can keep consistent with things.
