    1. During the Yalta Conference, Stalin compared Lavrentiy Beria, head of the NKVD (Internal Ministry), to Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS and Interior Minister.

      Stalin introduced Beria to Churchill as “our Himmler.”

      After the 20 July assassination attempt on Hitler, he organized show trials for the surviving conspirators and remarked to his inner circle that “Roland Freisler, who is our Vyshinsky, will handle this.”

      Freisler had visited the Soviet Union during the Great Purge and witnessed the sham Moscow Trials led by Chief Prosecutor Andrey Vyshinsky.
