For folk that're gonna make this about skin colour. Obviously it doesn't matter who plays what but the dynamics of the situation makes it a holup!

    1. Cool right? And what is bad about evil characters being racist? Is it too much? I want evil characters to be despicable

    2. It fits malfoy perfectly though, malfoy is a racist little dhit that’s his whole deal

    3. Id say the casting of Snape is worse from this viewpoint. Casting the character that Harry miss trusts for a reason he can never quite put his finger on as a black man is certainly a choice.

No one fucking cares except for the few bubbles on reddit and twotter who will probably won’t even watch this tv show as they are too busy shitting on social media. Touch. Some. Grass.

    5. Harry’s father will be a racist now instead of just a bully, well see a black Snape being bullied because of his looks, and to make it worse, people will suspect the black guy (snape) of stealing the Philosopher’s Stone

      Harry Potter, the grand wizard

I don’t know. I think it’s intentionally forcing people to sit with the uncomfortable realities racism in the world today. Today we dance around things like suicide and call it “unaliving” or saying “grape” instead of calling it what it is. I, personally, don’t like pandering. Make the stupid people understand that this is a story point that reflects a real world problem.

    7. Is mud blood ACTUALLY a racist term in real life? Or are American poc just making it a racial slur bc the person saying it is white and the person being called it is brown?

Feeling grateful as a poc in New Zealand that doesn’t have to worry about this stuff 🙏🏼

The only ones bringing up issues with race are the viewers. Do you really think the wizarding world concern themselves with the colour of people’s skin? They can perform fucking MAGIC, people…

They can literally transform into any person of any race with polyjuice potion. Some can even transform their physical appearance at will. There is literally no canonical reason for them to be racially discriminatory. The only discrimination they do engage in is the blood status thing, i.e. mudbloods and pure bloods.

I wish everyone would stfu about the race of the actors cast in this show. It’s insanely annoying and frankly quite telling about your own biases.

    9. Are we scared to make Malfoy look racist. That is like a pretty big part of his character or am i wrong?

I don’t see the problem. Calling someone a mudblood is derogatory and racist. This will truly encapsulate that.

    11. Harry will suspect that a black man (Snape) of stealing the Stone… Neville’s biggest fear will be a black man (Snape)… The jokes write themselves.

Whatever negative backlash is on HBO, not the fans, cause they wanted to be as book accurate as possible.

    12. This is all gonna be a shitshow. But the only reason they do it is so we talk about it, they want attention. Snape being black is just to get articles and virality.

It’s not hard to imagine they will change the slur “mudblood” to something else, if they are already colour swapping characters.
