This organism has no organs, it has just one hole (for food to enter and exit) and scientists still argue where it belongs in the tree of life. It just slides on the deep sea floor, existing for no clear reason. It is called Xenoturbella.

    1. >existing for no clear reason

I mean, there’s probably a reason, we just haven’t figured it out yet. Man, what if someone described your life as “existing for no clear reason” Rough!!

It’s phylogenetic position was unresolved until 2016, when two studies, with increased gene and taxon sampling, again placed Xenoturbella as the sister group of Acoelomorpha within Xenacoelomorpha, and placed Xenacoelomorpha as sister to Nephrozoa (Protostomia plus Deuterostomia), and therefore the basalmost bilaterian phylum.

    3. All organisms “exist for no clear reason”. We do not need a reason to be here.

    4. Spend all your time in the ocean, no job. Other than pooping out your mouth sounds ok to me!

    5. fucking judgemental much? poor creature managed to beat 99.999% of all species in evolution, yet this guy is giving it shit for no reason

    6. Fun fact, nothing and no one has any more a “reason” to exist than this creature.

As an Asian man, I think the most important question is, how does it taste? Can I shred it and serve it with tofu and noodles?

It exists because it can. Its purpose is to increase entropy in its surroundings.

    9. Ok, read it again, but imagine it in the voice of Werner Herzog.
You’ll never be able to not hear it that way again.

    10. “Existing for no clear reason”. That is all life. We are just a complex chemical reaction that is ongoing. Believing we are special or of more worth than simpler lifeforms, is just pure ego stroking

Biologists are always looking for a reason for a species to exist. What niche does it fill? Maybe the answer is there is no reason. It’s a by product of the dice roll.

It has a purpose, everything does.  It’s probably a bottom feeder, clean up crew.  Very necessary.
