I cannot lie. They got the characterization down. He looks menacing and batlike which is book accurate. As for the grand wizard let’s not make this a race thing becasue there are Black Death eaters. Blaise Zabini is a pureblood that’s racist just like Draco and Snape. And Blaise is black in the books.

My tinfoil hat theory is HBO’s current leadership is so fucking braindead, they think the racism to mudblold metaphor is too much of a thinker unless they cast their racist presumptions of “impure blood” to be super racially charged and JK is hella on board for that. Her literary understanding of races and cultures is objectively flawed, problematic and disgusting in the time she was writing. Which is to say nothing of how monstrous she’s become since. HP is problematic for a vast number of reason and this doesn’t look like a course correct thought a nuanced, modern lense… It looks like a cash grab that’s willing to cause as much harm as possible to culture, actors, fans and the discourse just to maybe make a billionaire a couple extra millions
