Photo taken by Yale Joel for a Life magazine piece on Davenport High School in 1953. My grandfather didn't know the photo was going to be taken until the moment he looked up in this photo. His big regret from the photo was that he lost the front fender in an accident the week before, he loved that bike.

    He was drafted in the army as a mechanic in Korea and worked as a Harley Davidson mechanic for over 30 years in Davenport, IA. He had two sons and two grandsons who became professional engineers. He would always say: "If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer."

    He didn't like being called a greaser, but I think he embodied much of the "Rebel Without a Cause" spirit of that time. We will all miss him.
