That’s not a proper pronounciation of the name Etienne in French though, where it derives from…

Its unfortunate how many people just have to white wash their name because a certain genre of person cant be bothered to learn.

I just call people what they want to be called and it’s working super well for me. Of I get it wrong, I say sorry and then try to get it right.

I worked with a Richard Strokes years ago. He was very adamant that we called him Richard

    5. He’s going to have a hard time in New Orleans where there are lots of Etienne’s who pronounce it that French way, and not like a sneeze gone wrong.

    6. In French and Haitian it’s eht-tea-ehn.

However he’s from Louisiana, so the creole pronunciation is the same sounds while sipping a sweet tea: “Ay-chin”

It’s basic respect for each other. Call people what they want to be called. Period. The end. Pronunciation. Gender. Et al.

Kind of an adjacent point, this is exactly why I don’t care what pronouns people want to be referred to by. You want to be called he/him/shlim/neodim? Fine. Doesn’t effect my day one bit, but it effects yours. It isn’t difficult to not be disrespectful and provide people with common courtesy. I don’t have to understand it, but it’s pointless dickhead behavior to just needlessly disrespect someone.

People pronounce my last name wrong all the time. I stopped caring in like, 2010.

    10. Bs ..:where was this energy when skip bayless kept calling Westbrook “Westbrick” and then yall said Russ was being too sensitive about it

    11. >your name is sacred

… it’s a noise people make to get your attention. It’s not that serious.

Is that real? I thought it was a joke because that’s how Achane said to pronounce his name when everyone kept calling him “A-chain”

I don’t care enough to have people properly pronounce my name and I don’t have time to teach people either, but once it’s disrespectful I’m Ali vs. Ernie Shavers til we get it right.

I’m Nigerian living in the south and I’ve had to correct people pronouncing my name wrong my whole life.

    15. Cool now let’s get after the British for shit like Cholmondeley, Kirkcudbrightshire and St. John

Your name is sacred, protect it and ask people to speak it properly. Unless of course it was the name a transgender person picked out.

    17. Don’t try to un-French it up, son.
Edit: Did you guys know the actual quote from Joe Dirt is “Don’t try and church it up” I thought it was French it up for years.
