Although having sons to inherit the title was preferred in many premodern cultures, the Ottoman Padishah Selim the Grim (1470-1520) was known for being ruthless in eliminating claimants to his throne. Upon overthrowing his father (whom he likely assassinated), he ordered that his brothers and nephews be put to death.
He had 8 sons but had most of them killed, leaving only the most competent one (Suleiman the Magnificent) alive. Close to his death, he became paranoid and also attempted to kill Suleiman, causing him to flee to another province until his father passed away.

I think it was a consequence of no primogeniture right? All sons were considered to have a claim, so succession often boiled down to which brother could kill the others first

I liked the detail they are being strangled to not spill royal blood

More like the monogamous european monarchs. Chinese monarchs had vast harems and thus had no problem conceiving large amounts of heirs

I just finished playing Road to empress. There is no way of convincing me that chinese princes weren’t killing each other.

It was normal for Ottoman princes to start a civil war and kill each other until only one was left. Suitans tried to prevent this imprisioning for life all their sons except the one they wanted to inherit the throne, and sometimes they took it a step further and killed them…
