Taking over Spain with a force in the tens of thousands is some early medieval shit, that’s such a low number. I’m a little less impressed by the Roman Empire taking over half the known world considering how relatively easy it was to do back then.

    2. Something always overlooked: the Visigothic Kingdon was corroded due to the constant civil wars for the power.

The opposition groups, namely the jews (strongly repressed), the arrians (whose faith had similarities with Islam and had been forced to convert to Catholicism) and the witizans (that betrayed Roderick during Guadalete battle, abandoning the battlefield during the battle) actively worked for the invaders.

    3. Betrayals, instability, and more betrayals brought an end to the Visigothic Hispania. The numbers, however, are entirely fabricated. Modern estimates talk about 2,500 Visigoths vs 1,900 Arabs

    4. All of that only for Asturias to remain untouched, which ultimately led to the Umayyads downfall as after Tours, Asturias began pushing back and reclaiming territory all the way until the rest of Northern Iberia was reclaimed.

This would be the catalyst for the Reconquista, an event that foresaw the shattering of the Umayyads into Taifas and the overall uno reverse card of the Islamic Caliphate until Granada remained.

And when Granada Fell, the Spanish and Portuguese would not too long after begin the Age of Exploration and became the 1st Colonial Powers, carving up the world in half while doing so.

    5. Didn’t help that two thirds of the Visigoth army was basically rebellious and either left immediately or outright switched sides in the battle

“Wow it is glorious perfect victory. Praise the God! We will build heaven on this land!

Well, don’t care about small enemy in the north. Nothing they can do with such small territory!”

    7. Sir, the Astures have defeated the forces we sent and killed the gobernor we assigned them before it could even reach the village. Should we send more troops and crush them?

The people of the north, wasnt there like a few villages and everything else is wild forest and mountains? what are a bunch of mountainfolk savages going to do? just leave them be we need to prepare to go after france.

    8. Also created a worldwide the surname Rodriguez’ which has been pretty prolific.

The visigoths were very unpopular, and one of the reasons the Spanish were over run so quickly was because they did not let the common peasantry own any weapons, for fear of revolt. In a way, the Moorish occupation and subsequent re-conquista was a purification by fire of Spain

    11. Only the beginning of this region’s history of having wars in which tiny forces beat much bigger ones.
