I’d run from it, even with the false eyes.

Not sure why it needs to look any more frightening. Those talons look like they mean business.

For whom? Why doesn’t it just fly instead of intimidate?

My pastor says human nipples are false eyes to ward off predators. This is why being topless around horses is dangerous

Nature is amazing. When it comes to details like this, I wonder if the vulture KNOWS that it appears there’s larger eyes behind their head, or if they think it’s their own head and eyes that are doing all of the intimidation.

Plot twist: It’s actually the small head we think of as the real one which is false, a decoy, really. The real face of the bird is big enough to bite off a human’s head or to swallow a medium-sized dog with its wing-to-wing mouth full of a hundred teeth. (Yes, I know we think birds don’t have teeth. 🙃😱)

How can an evolutionary adaptation be clever?

Why not evolve to just be larger and more intimidating?

Just got my ass kicked by an owl bear in BG3 that looked kind of similar.

Whoa. Bird of many faces.

Haha yes I’m definitely not scared of the smaller head with the sharp beak and the very real talons.
