    1. My grandfather was an engineer attached to Patton’s Army. He built the pontoon bridge to cross the Rhine right here after the Germans blew the bridge. He found a few war trophies in Worms. He past away last year at 101.

    2. Such an interesting detail that the dead GI’s solo dog-tag is hanging out. Someone has likely grabbed his other one, even while under fire. Very sobering photo, thanks for sharing.

    3. Not that other deaths didn’t hit people hard but being that close to surviving the war and not making it is rough. A little over a month away from VE Day.
