The trend of youtubers holding clip on mics is kinda dumb

They do it because the proximity effect makes their voice sound deeper and more professional than clipping it

The fact that it’s literally designed to be hands free but they still hold it like a tiny ice cream cone for the entire video is so distracting, they’re really out here making things harder for themselves for the aesthetic.

If you move around while it’s clipped to your shirt it will muffle and sound horrible. Holding it slightly out prevents this and over all improves sound quality.

It’s like when I see trashy people at the supermarket holding their phone up to their face on speaker instead of just utting it on regular phone mode

    5. Would you rather the camera’s inbuilt mic trying to record them talking away at 10ft?

    6. Yes but I do enjoy it when people stick it to random objects. Like that one guy with a crowbar

Holy fuck, is this really a big deal? You people get irrationally angry at the dumbest shit.

    8. Cause if you hold something people are more interested on watching, cause it’s a natural thing, they want to see what is up with the interaction with that object

    9. Trying to convince you this is a spontaneous comment and they are on the run to do something exciting…

Ryan trehan does that shit and I like his content but I fucking hate when he does that shit

I think people just don’t know what to do with their hands, but I could be wrong

I love it when they hold it on something stupid though. I remeber seeing one dude who held his on a flip flop. One guy had his clipped into his beard.

    13. I think people are holding mics are not really realizing why they’re holding it. When street interview style content started, they did just the lapel mic.

Then to be funnier or to seem more legit they started holding either a random object with a lapel mic tapped to it or an actual mic while also still having a lapel mic on.

Then either out of laziness or thinking it was funnier, people who did that style of content started just holding a lapel mic. And now everybody just holds a lapel mic.

    14. Holding your microphone as close to your mouth is actually great for better audio quality. It’s not just a trend, it’s genuinely an easy way to turn most microphones, even crappy ones, into sounding pretty good while eliminating background noise.

I don’t know why but it triggers me so much. I find it so…cringe? Unnecessary ?

And Casual geographic is somehow able to rock it perfectly,it just feels right

People who make content where their face/hands are visible can agree that having your hands free sucks if you don’t know what to do with your hands, if you occupy one of your hands by holding the lapel mic up to your face, it eliminates the need to use one of your hands and makes gesturing a bit easier.

There’s also the aspect that, for some reason, it can boost engagement.

It does look stupid, but I can promise you that people who do content creation for a living are more concerned with getting a click/audience retention and the little things they do is a subtle form of psychology.

      its for better sound quality.

putting a clip on a mic isnt a magic cheat code that makes it able to pic up your voice better outside the direct cone of sound.

Yeah it always makes me laugh a bit. The whole point of a clip mic is that you don’t have to hold it.
