No, what social media convinced us is that we NEED those likes on a daily basis. That we need not only to perform for strangers, but to also have their validation.
Imagine if you woke up, and your productivity and mood depended on people giving you compliments. If everything you did as a hobby eventually became for the sake of that validation.
Sorry if i dont see anything wholesome about those digital forms of social life that only isolate us from one another.

No.
The thing is you never needed a single like. Get off social media.

Yeah but a like is just a single tap on the screen, and you have like a million taps on your screen per day so that reduces the specialty

To be honest, some of the comments I’m proudest of on reddit only got like 2 or 3 likes, but I know they reached the person I was trying to reach which makes it all worthwhile.

Yall get more than 1 like from yourself?

I mean, now that you can also see the views on your post the other example with telling a joke in front of an audience and only a fraction laughs fits better

It’s not equivalent at all because of the scale. But regardless one compliment in real life is more meaningful than hundreds of likes online.

I mean, I get it, but that’s not really a fair comparison.
Imagine walking on to a stage and telling a joke to a hundred thousand people, and only 15 laugh. That’s a closer comparison.
The other 99985 people tell you that you are a waste of air.
Now we have actual mental disorders for people that crash out because they don’t get enough likes
