Leave it to a 70s TV show to drop a line that still hits harder than most modern war movies. Somehow they managed to be brutally honest and sarcastic at the same time.

Think about this little tidbit. Here’s the civilian numbers of dead in WW2 for Germany and the Soviets 19 million in the Soviet Union alone and 7.4 million in Germany from military actions aka attacks on cities by troops and bombers and from diseases and starvation. China lost a confirmed 20 million with an estimated 15 million more possible

Still a pretty relevant show, even with all the sexism, they actually do address it in a few episodes.

The sad part is that war is real and hell is not.
We could do with less fighting, and a dumping ground for the (genuinely) wicked.

I know Hawkeye’s line is excellent, and what mostly people are celebrating when they talk about this exchange, but I just want a small shout-out for “Sinners, I believe.” It’s such a disarming, humble response. It’s the statement of someone who’s genuinely curious about Hawkeye’s views on Hell and theology, respects the intelligence of the person he’s talking to, and is prepared for his previous held ideas to possibly be replaced with something new.
He knows very well that Hell is full of sinners, but he’s not sure where Hawkeye is going, and he’s genuinely interested to find out.

Back when Hollywood had real spine, now a ‘spine’ is a cheap checkbox in some executive’s ‘make a TV show’ checklist.

I’m going to hell because God doesn’t exist and I’m gonna be pretty pissed if any Christians are there.

What a great show, completely ahead of its time
