For Non-Americans, the [Battles of Lexington and Concord](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battles_of_Lexington_and_Concord) of the American Revolution are sometimes referred to as “shot heard ’round the world” as it was the first major battle that kickstarted the revolution.

Meanwhile, the [Tsar Bomba](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsar_Bomba), the most powerful nuclear weapon ever detonated, was so powerful its shockwave encircled the Earth three times.

Haha, id only heard of the baseball version (i think its mentioned in Underworld by Don Delillo). I didnt know the phrase was a reference to this.

    3. Except a bomb going off isn’t a ‘shot’. That’s not what that word even means.

The Tsar bomb was impractical and it didn’t really make the threat of nuclear war anymore scary than it already was/is when you really think about it.
Smaller nukes on a MIRV will kill a bunch of people dead just the same.

No idea what the top one is, but assuming it’s American, I can see the lineage of USA sports leagues calling domestic competition winners world champs.

Archduke Ferdinand is the shot I’d nominate.

I could be wrong but I think that “Shot heard around the world” isn’t exclusive to just the revolutionary war. For instance I’ve often heard the assassination of Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand referred to it as such as well
