I’m the furthest thing from a fish expert, but to me he looks so much healthier

I wish I had the time to take care of fish. It seems nice, but I have too many other responsibilities and I don’t feel like I’d be able to give them the proper attention.

bro got all the color genes

seriously though that’s a remarkable glow-up even by betta standards!

    5. His scales look a little puffy.. can you see them popping out from the sides if you look down at him??

    6. Clearly you are taking care of your scaly friend! And it shines like his new hue. Good work!

I love how defined his face as gotten with the love and care you’ve put into him… he looks completely different ❤️

    8. Genuine question, what do you mean by you rescued him? I didnt know fish needs a rescue.

    9. Nice job, OP! I have kept reef aquariums for many years and always wanted to keep a betta.

What would you say the top couple keys to success are?

Bettas are underrated pets. Super easy to take care of and their presence really brings life into the room.

    11. Really cool! Your betta has the marble gene, so it will continue to change color over its lifetime.

A small note: the turnover of new scales causes an increased risk of tumor development, and may lead to scales growing over the eyes (diamond eyes). Not a for sure thing by any means, but keep an eye out for it!

So, in case you didn’t know, pet stores are very stressful places for fish. Stressed fish need to hide. In some species, such as Bettas, that need is expressed physically in their coloration. This fish is much healthier and happier now that it is no longer in the tiny cup at the pet stores and is now in a healthy home.

      Good job, OP.

    13. Fish are living beings, people forget that because they cant scream or make any noise, plus their guts and stuff are not the same color as ours, fish is the only pet that we consider acceptable to flush in the toilet, the rest get burried
