Guys, it’s not surprising at all especially with hockey. It costs roughly 20k a year to support a child in youth hockey. These guys have likely spent all of their time since they were roughly 6-8 years old surrounded by nothing but other rich white kids with rich white families. When you spend all of your time around nothing but that for 10+ years what do you think happens to your worldview?
The amount of money it requires to support a youth hockey player alone speaks to that all of these guys are from affluent families that have hard conservative views. If there are a handful of guys on the team that don’t lean that way they likely are going to cave to pressure because they don’t want the personal repercussion that comes from that.
Example of that, this country wraps sports and religion incredibly tightly together that non religious athletes feel pressure to go a long with it for fear or repercussion. My son played high school football and isn’t religious at all, he told me he had to participate in team prayer because he’d get benched and shit on by his teammates if he didn’t.
