On May 15, 1992, during his final performance at the Salón Bugambilias in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Chalino Sánchez was handed a folded note by an audience member mid-song. Captured on video while he performed “Alma Enamorada,” the singer’s face visibly paled and his smile disappeared as he read the message, which is widely believed to have been a death threat warning him he would not leave the venue alive. Despite the obvious distress, Sánchez crumpled the note and continued the concert to its completion. Shortly after leaving the venue, his vehicle was intercepted by armed men in black Suburbans who flashed state police identification and claimed their commander needed to see him. The following morning, his body was discovered in an irrigation canal; he had been blindfolded, his wrists bore rope marks, and he had been shot twice in the back of the head.

This truly encapsulates the saying “*the show must go on*”

Still gave his best damn performance even when faced with death

Did we ever get a confirmed reason why he was killed? Or was it just because of the content of his music?

    4. This was May 15, 1992, in Culiacán. He was found the next morning. The ‘King of Corridos’ knew exactly what that note meant and still chose to give his fans one last show.
Pure bravery Watching a man read his own death sentence and then keep singing is one of the heaviest things on the internet. RIP Chalino

    5. googling his name, the stories are even wild.

“After clambering drunkenly onto the stage of a nightclub, he stood face to face with the singer Chalino Sanchez. Both men had traveled similar paths. Like Chalino, Gallegos was a teenager when he left his home state of Sinaloa, where his family worked the fields in poverty. Gallegos was looking for “the American dream, to earn money,” he would say decades later. It didn’t turn out that way.

Chalino found fame and fortune in the dance halls of southeastern Los Angeles County, singing corridos — ballads that chronicled the lives of men who made a living sending drugs, money and people across the U.S.-Mexican border. Gallegos was broke, addicted to heroin, and losing his marriage when he invited himself onstage at the Plaza Los Arcos in Coachella.

Gallegos pointed a gun at Chalino’s chest and pulled the trigger four times. Chalino drew his own gun and fired back. Pandemonium erupted. A young man, dancing with his wife, was fatally wounded in the crossfire.”

He’s a legend. He performed knowing he was gonna die.

He was known for having some pretty anti-cartel songs so they killed him for it.

**Since context helps**….. Chalino Sánchez’s murder in 1992 remains officially unsolved, but it’s widely believed his death was connected to the drug cartels he often sang about, likely stemming from a death threat note handed to him mid-performance, possibly for a corrido insulting a rival trafficker, leading to his assassination by unknown assailants in Culiacán.

    8. I like his music and there are some songs I will still play. But there is something about what’s going on that makes anybody who’s contribution to the culture is the glorification and normalization of narco terrorists and their enablers can get bent.

Do people not understand that there’s billions of people on the planet. Millions of reddit users. Some people don’t use reddit as often as you do. Not everyone has seen this before. Just because you have doesn’t mean someone else also has. Yes this has been posted before. You guys aren’t the main characters though. No one cares if you’ve seen this 400 times when there’s plenty of people who haven’t seen this at all. It’s not that serious LMFAO.

    10. From his wiki:
      > On 25 January 1992, Sánchez was shot while performing in Coachella, California, United States, but survived. He fired back in self-defense, killing a bystander.[2] Just a few months later, on May 16, Sánchez was shot and killed by unidentified assailants after a performance in Culiacán, in which he was handed a note commonly believed to have contained a death threat. Though Sánchez’s murder remains unsolved, it is suspected to be linked to a Mexican cartel or revenge.[3]

      >His record team warned him against visiting his home state of Sinaloa. Against their advice, he traveled to perform in concerts during the spring of 1992.[23][time needed]
On 16 May 1992, during a performance at the Salón Bugambilias in Culiacán, Sánchez was handed a note from someone in the crowd. Immediately, he seemed to become frightened. The note is commonly believed to have been a death threat, but this has never been confirmed.[24] A video shows Sánchez reading the note, showing signs of worry, then crumpling up the note and continuing to sing.[25]
After midnight, Sánchez left the club with two of his brothers, a cousin and several young women in a 1992 Ford vehicle. Their vehicle was pulled over by a group of armed men in black Chevrolet Suburbans. They showed state police identification and told Sánchez that their commander wanted to see him. Sánchez agreed and got into one of their cars.[7]
The following morning, two farmers found Sánchez’s body by an irrigation canal near Mexican Federal Highway 15, near the neighborhood of La Presita, Culiacán. He was blindfolded, and his wrists bore rope marks. He had been shot twice in the back of the head.[26] Sánchez was buried in the Panteón de Los Vasitos in Sinaloa, Mexico.[27][6]

I’ve visited this legend grave three times 2020,2022, & 2023. the last time was on May 16, 2023 when it was the anniversary of his death. There was hardly anyone there but Chalino’s brother & Chalino’s childhood friend & got the privilege to meet them & go inside Chalino’s mausoleum. His brother told me crazy stories about him & Chalino back in the day.

    12. Can you refuse to accept it? Is it like legal papers?

Probably not, because they are murderers.

    13. This would be interesting as fuck… IF it hadn’t been posted 60,000 times already over the last 10 years…
