At some point it stops being coincidence and starts looking like a pattern nobody wants to admit.

Climate change isn’t real, Venice is just practicing its swimming lessons 40 times a year. Getting ready for the Olympics.

Venice is literally the front line of the climate crisis

I have noticed the weather being a bit different these days myself, but to be fair I’m pretty sure Venice is also in a constant state of slowly sinking.

Its easy to say “the sea level isnt rising” when you dont live near the sea.
Thos who do live near the sea are considering moving.

Kind of a bad example? Venice’s foundations have also been sinking into the ocean which would also give a good reason for this.

At this rate, the gondola tours won’t need the canals anymore, they’ll just be ‘City Hall Tours’ by boat.

tuvalu is a better example.
venice’s flooding is caused by multiple issues, such as the fact they pumped out drinking water from underneath the city so the ground started sinking (ground level is lower by 1/4th of a meter compared to 100 years ago, a massive difference when they are already so close to sea level). (tho obviously rising sea levels also are to blame)

I’m not doubting climate change, but isn’t Venice just slowly sinking anyway?

You don’t have to believe in climate change, your insurance company does.

They build dams around the rivers surrounding it to make sure Venice survives.
Whether they think climate change is real or not the authorities in Italy had to act because their offices got flooded too often.

10 years ago we used to have a fun amount of snow
now we either have absolutely nothing or rarely a snowstorm that lasts half a day

I think the biggest thing for me is that the mountains around my area no longer get snow during December/January anymore. Christmas was 80 degrees last year T-T

You gotta love the people who deny climate change /s. You know who believes it? Insurance companies. ‘Money talks, bullshit walks.’

I think they argue now about whether it’s man made or just a natural phenomenon. It’s obvious there are major changes in climate if you at least look at the price of insurance on property

Venice is mostly flooding because it’s sinking, not because of climate change.
That doesn’t mean climate change isn’t real. It does mean you chose a pretty bad example.

Here in Kazakhstan we used to have snow starting in November. Throughout the winter months the temps would normally go down to -20, easily could reach -30. For the last couple of years we sometimes have positive temperature in winter- which would have been considered nonsense before, like +3 on the New Year Eve. When I was a kid New Year Eve was always associated with cold as temperature, but here we are.

Climate change is real, the causes are debatable, Venice is sinking for other reasons

Sea rising is just a minor part of it: Hurracains, droughts, inundations and so on.

Back in the 70s our government used to deploy a fucking tank with a plow to clean meter of snow on the streets. Not it can be done with a single shovel
