Not so much retro futurism as just plain ol futurism.

Guys, the movie was made in 1968 which makes it retro, and it is set in the future even from now making it futuristic. I think that is why they are calling it retrofuturism. Granted technically retrofuturism would be making a movie today that is made in a retro style about the future, but I still see why they would call this retrofuturism as well.

I’m still confused about this. The planet had apes, horses and trees on it and somehow it was supposed to be surprising that it was Earth?

Bruhhhh the first time I saw this movie was in a video class… legit had no idea what was coming towards the end… right before there was a classmate who out loud said, “is this the part where they show the statue of liberty .” Bruhhhhh I was sooo fucking pissed, like it was such a good movie and the Ned was ruined.

Always thought it was fucked up that reissues of this movie used this image on the cover and just gave away the films iconic twist.

The opening bits on the spaceship, and the ship itself (Heston smoking cigars at the controls) would count as retrofuturism at this point.
