Oof, shingles is no joke. 😞 Wishing you a speedy recovery ❤️🩹

It is usually in half of the body. The nerve in one side get infected. Hitting the eye should be horrible.
RiMcG on
Ugh, that sucks. It follows nerve paths is what the doc told me when I had them. I got it in a line up the back of my neck with branches going into my hair line and one that went along my jaw almost to my chin

Vaccinate people, shingles hits earlier and earlier now and it’s no joke. Had it a couple of years ago
oh_wait_nevermind on
Shingles is hemisphereral in everyone dawg. It’s normal (for herpes zosters) but also more and more serious the older you get. I had it bad in college.
tumblrmustbedown on
For those who don’t know, shingles rash follows “dermatomes” based on a specific nerve root it’s effecting. Noting that the rash doesn’t cross “midline” is how we often diagnose shingles, as you have different nerve roots on each side of the body. The rash being along the face and at the eye (following a V1 dermatome of the trigeminal nerve) is often considered a medical emergency due to the risk of vision complications, so I obviously hope you’ve started valacyclovir!
Lorenzoak on
For anyone wondering why it’s split perfectly down the middle: shingles travels along nerve paths (dermatomes), which generally don’t cross the midline of your body

I had a similar situation. Make sure you go to the eye doctor specifically, though it sounds like you already have. Gabapentin helps but most of all you want to get on the antivirals ASAP. The sooner the better.

Can I ask how old you are?
Someone in the thread is talking about how you should get the vaccine, but where I am you cannot even get it until you are 50+ (and you definitely look younger than that).
Frog_Idiot on
My sympathy is with you. I just had a bout of it but caught it v. early. One rash on my forehead and two little ones on my eyelid. It sucked.

I had Shingles at 17, left side of my stomach and wrapped around to the left side of my back.
I went to the Doc, but he didn’t give me any meds. Took two weeks to clear.

My roommate had this same thing about 2 years ago. It took a couple of months to process through and then took almost 2 years for the scars to fully fade. She has a little left close to her hair line now but you can’t really tell u less you are looking for it. Best of luck on your recovery.

that’s how shingles always works. it only hits one side. I had it and it was thr worst few weeks ever. so glad you caught it early!

This isn’t funny, you were Gotham’s last hope. Now you really have to kill that bat cosplayer.

Shingles doesn’t normally cross your body for some reason; I had it on my back in a circle that almost looked like those colour blind number test things- minus one chunk of the circle was missing from where the shingles stopped in an abrupt line.
ZeroSuitGanon on
Best of luck in recovery, OP, shingles suck.
I went to the doctor at like 20 with a weird feeling in my side, and specifically remember reading the shingles brochure in the lobby aimed at the elderly. Guess who had shingles up their entire right ribcage but hadn’t connected the dots?

I had shingles two years ago in the same place. Not fun at all

Shingles normal doesn’t cover your whole face thankfully, just smaller sections. But that looks horrible either way. I’ve only had a small patch once and its probably 3x worse than poison ivy.

I think that’s usually how it goes. I got Shingles on my left side as well. It really fucked up my ear. BTW Shingles fucking SUCKS and it can go directly to hell.

Dude the next few months will not be fun. Take all the sick days your employer gives you.
You will need time to recover.
If after everything is gone you feel like your face still looks off. That’s normal (or it happend to me) I still struggle sometimes with a bit of thinking it’s off when it’s not. I had it like 3 years ago.
I hope you get your eye checked. There is a small chance it spreads to the eye (according to my doctor)

Thats early yet, wait till it starts scabbing over.
I had it during Covid lockdown a bit after my 30th birthday. Basically just took every painkiller I could and waited it out. I had on my ear, lower face, neck and shoulder down to my chest.
I remember playing escape from tarkov with a bag of frozen peas in a tea towel on my shoulder.
JorgeXMcKie on
I had it on my neck line and a little down my back. I couldn’t wear a shirt for almost 2 weeks because it was so painful. It was like someone had rubbed a furry cactus against my neck and back and left all the little spikes in

This is what happened when my husband got shingles three years ago. It started with intense pain in his eye and redness, and he thought he had some sort of eye infection. He went to the eye doctor to have his eye looked at and the optometrist diagnosed him with shingles. She was able to catch it very early thankfully, so he got on medication swiftly, but he was in a lot of pain. I’m wishing you a very speedy recovery!

Er doc here. In this distribution very important to see your eye doc and get treatment asap. Corneal ulcers can be very damaging.

Herpes Zoster Opthalmicus! That means the varicella zoster virus was hiding out in the opthalmic branch of your left trigeminal nerve, which controls (on that side) sensation in your forehead, some of your sinuses, part of your nose, and the cornea of your eye.
because of the corneal involvement it can cause vision loss.
I’m sorry you’re going through this and I hope you’re on an antiviral

You need to get evaluated urgently. When shingles gets near the eye it can cause permanent eye damage

Hello, hopefully you went to the doctor. Shingles that involves the nerve route that goes into the eye is a medical emergency. If you have not, you need urgently seen by an eye doctor

Why is everyone suddenly getting shingles?! … im just over a week in with it (thankfully I caught it super early and minimised the spread, but it still ducking hurts) and colleague at work just had an outbreak also!
Good news from what I have read, unless youre immuno compromised you typically only get shingles once in life.
Btw i had chickenpox + vax when I was a kid.. im 34 now

Hey, just an fyi if you hadn’t been told yet:
If you notice a red ring around your iris, you need a doctor immediately. That could result in permanent vision loss. (At least that’s what I was told when I was diagnosed.)
