Because a section of US people believe that Israel is key to ushering in Armageddon and the rapture. So they want it to exist so it can rebuild the temple and so they can all go into heaven because truly an omniscient and all loving entity will reward behaviours that fly contrary to their directly given statements.
Which I think is funny because even from a Christian hard-line theological perspective delaying the end times just lets more people be saved and repent.
While personally I don’t believe in a creator deity. I imagine if they exist they probably take a dim view at best of hypocritical and self righteous belief
