The Abydos boats are the remnants of ancient Egyptian ceremonial wooden boats found in brick-lined boat graves, in Abydos, with their prows pointed towards the Nile. They were probably made for the afterlife journeys of the Pharaoh Hor-Aha (c. 3085 BCE) or Pharaoh Djer (c. 3000 BCE) [900×1072]

It’s so insane to me that we have any idea who may have built these. So long ago, and still we know the names of some people.
Just fascinating to think about the centuries of research and science that goes into understanding ancient languages. Whole lifetimes devoted to the smallest aspects.
