He went a bridge too far with this one
Given Patton’s actions in the Lorraine, he’s one to talk about wasting men.
A general from a country with a much smaller population will be more cautious wasting mens lives than leaders from countries that can afford to lose more men to achieve their strategic goals.
If the Allied leadership was a circus, Monty would be the tight rope walker.
General MacArthur in the Corner with his Nuclear Plan sitting in the PH:
“Patton’s 3rd Army began to cross the Moselle as early as 5 September, yet was little farther forward 2 weeks later – or indeed two months later.” – Liddel Hart
Further, Montgomery brings you Operation Overlord. Patton brings you assaults on men with PTSD, and Holocaust denial.
Edit: As a meme, this post also fails, with the content being the direct opposite of the title.
People love to shit on market garden, but everyone knew it was a gamble and it came close to paying off, and if it had paid off millions would have been saved and Germany and much of eastern Europe probably would have been spared soviet ravages.
Its more a tragedy than a hilarious blunder.
I’d take Monty over Patton, tbh.
