It’s to show the world “You’re not welcome here, stop coming”
The right wing wants to stop immigration. They can’t do that through Congress. So they’re doing it through Trump.
And it’s working. It’s estimated that 2026 will be the 1st year in history that America’s population declines.
That’s due to millions fewer immigrants.
If you’re goal is to stop immigration, what Trump and the Heritage Foundation Goons are doing works.
We know it works because Trump did a much less extreme version in his 1st term and we ended that with 2.4m fewer immigrants.
The estimate right now is that Trump’s 2nd term will double that.
I don’t think anyone likes to talk about this. But that’s what they’re doing.
It’s not about the individual detainees and deportations, it’s about creating a hostile environment so that immigrants stay away.

70k$ per detainment is a bit better if detaining innocent people is what you’re after. And that is what they are after, because the purpose is to intimidate innocent people, so that they stay away from the voting booths if they look like they’d vote left. You say, that some will just try to look like they vote right, but that’s also a win for the current administration, because if everyone looks like they vote right regardless of what they actually do vote, then that will 1: Sway a couple of naive people to vote right, because that’s how psychology works and more important 2: It will make an outcome swung by voting fraud much more believable.
