LaVey was the very thing he hated. A hypocrite. Worse than a hypocrite he was probably directly complicit in pimping out his own daughter from a very young age. I am Catholic and there are many cool people who are non-theistic Satanists, Atheists, Agnostics, and non-Christians. However, LaVey is not cool. And yes, there are many Catholic Priests and Popes who are not cool too. I’ll call them out as well.

My friends and I took some acid back in the 80s, and were walking by his house at night in San Francisco and heard a crazy low growling sound from just behind the fence he had surrounding the place. We always talked about it later to make sure it wasn’t an auditory hallucination. It sort of freaked us out. It sounded like…well, Satan.
30 years later, while reading an article about him in Politico, it casually mentioned that he kept a lion at the house.
Mystery solved.
