Photo my aunt showed me of my great grandfather serving as a cook in the Hungarian Army. The same great grandfather also helped rescue the rest of the family from death in WW2, due to being funny and a good schnapps maker. According to family history, the officers requested that he work as a bartender for them which gave him leverage to get the rest of them into safer work in Vienna rather than being sent to death camps.
