Chand Baori (Step-Well) situated in village of Abhaneri, Rajasthan, India. Constructed around 800AD and was designed for making it easier on many people to reach water, it is one of deepest and largest step wells of India with 3500 narrow steps in 13 stories.

Easier?
Surely a bucket and a rope is more forgiving 😅
It also has an automatic burial system where a person who falls from the steps gets automatically buried in the well.
That must have contained half the village either going down or coming up and doesn’t the water look appetising!
Do they expect me to walk back up carrying water?
Oh, you think darkness is your ally? You merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it.
I would have assumed it was an auditorium.. doesn’t look easy to get water at all. Looks like a day’s job to get three buckets of water
I bet that water today is one of the most polluted pools in the world.
Absolute fucking jokers in the comment section.
The batman pit scene was filmed here btw.
It’s one of the best examples of water conservation in a desert, constructed over 1200 years ago – an excellent marvel of architecture and design still standing.
TIL in 800AD the prototype for the very first Stairmaster was invented.
Imagine going down all those steps, bumping into people saying “Sorry, excuse me”, only to get to the bottom and see that cesspool of battery acid. Stuff that for a game of soldiers.
India is funding or trying to atleast – restoration of a lot of these stepwells.
CNN covered it end last year:

I wish modern architecture would look like this. The old world must have looked incredible.
Beautifully featured in the 2006 film “The Fall”.

Located in the heart of Rajasthan (INDIA), Chand Baori – A “baori” is a stepwell, a structure unique to India. In the arid climate of Rajasthan, these wells were imperative for the storage of water in ancient times. Though the city is abandoned, many visitors come here every year.
Would be a cool tennis court
Respect… but a long circular slide would have been easier and a lot more fun
