I feel like her fans mistakenly identify her clever marketing as musical genius. I once had a Taylor Swift fan correct me after I said “album” instead of “era”, because “her music sounds different between albums, so it’s not enough of a distinction if you don’t call it an era”
And it’s like yeah, fair enough, but you do realize that most artists’ albums sound different from each other, right? Like if I heard an old Linkin Park song, and I didn’t specifically remember the album it was on, I could probably guess correctly based on the general vibe, because Linkin Park’s albums sound different. Doesn’t mean we need to refer to it as “The Meteora Era”

I am a high school teacher whose class is mostly full of girls. Taylor is whatever to me, I really don’t listen to her music. But I make sure to call her “the greatest poet of our time” so the teens don’t hate me. It’s fake but I don’t care. She’s almost a god to some of these people.
It’s amazing how much I know about her just through cultural osmosis. That and my sister being a Gaylor. I never meant to know so much about Josh.
