But also, if people don’t oppose this shit, it could get worse. And who knows what’s going on that we don’t know about yet.

People still think deportation means you get to leave? No bitch, deportation means you get to die in a camp now

It’s not oppression Olympics. It’s just facts, history and actual truth. ICE is NOTHING like what happened to slavery and to not want people comparing them, shows an educated person.
Not someone looking to have one be “worse” than the other.

I would say being torn from your home and family and shipped overseas is an approximation of the slave experience.

Slavery is definitely different than the ICE deportations but I understand getting tired of everything being compared to slavery or everything being centered around black oppression. I literally was just having this convo minutes ago.
Everything can’t be slavery, everything can’t be put in the context of “try saying it about black people”, every instance of racism can’t be compared to the n-word, and so on. Shits actually tiring. The ICE deportations and crackdown on illegal immigrants is fucking atrocious and terrifying. Its not slavery though. It is however its own sort of horror that should be discussed on the merits of itself.
This isn’t about “ranking” anything, for me at least. Tim could be on some bullshit in terms of his deeper motivation. But we need to decouple the way we examine oppression and the way we talk about bad things in America. I’m tired of black folks always being simultaneously the punching bag and the ruler used to measure pain.

I don’t understand oppression olympics. Why do some people need to treat *oppression* like a competition? It’s like that old joke about black people and Jews arguing who had it worse. What’s wrong with “we both suffered/suffer and that sucks”?

It’s funny how the opposition in USA, despite supposedly being the tolerant good guys, can’t ever find any sort of common ground. Everyone is holier than thou. Nobody gives an inch. No compromise in purity of thought.
The not so funny thing is that the lesson you are going to learn about this is going to cost you. A lot, maybe everything.

Whoaaaa hold up, this sub getting astroturfed?
There is a **gigantic** difference between the severity of chattel slavery and what ICE is doing. Nobody is *saying* they’re both not inhumane, but the context of the tweet that’s being quoted is that people are comparing them.
My little brother can **feel like** him being on punishment is comparable to the holocaust but he would be **objectively wrong.**
Correcting facts isnt competition, and whether that person is actually white or just uneducated, they need to learn that “oppression olympics” is the rhetoric of the exact people doing both.

Would be a lot easier if folk would accept that Black Americans aren’t interested in fighting for (illegal) immigrants.
