Whilst he probably died somewhere along the way, the Soviet Union had quite an issue on their hands with Soviet troops seeing how people in Germany and Western Europe were living. The NKVD were arresting made up dissidents on the frontline during the battle of Berlin to maintain order.

Interestingly, it’s a bit like the scenes in Ukraine when videos started emerging of Russian troops from the far east seeing how Ukrainians had indoor plumbing during the initial invasion.
