“Gun carriage races” (Гонки на лафетах) was a period in early 80s during which 3 soviet leaders and many other people who occupied high-end positions in the military high command passed away in a short time span. Gun carriages (лафет) were used to carry the coffins of soviet leaders, thus the name of the period. The period started with the death of Leonid Brezhnev on November10, 1982 and ended with the death of Konstantin Chernenko on March 12, 1985.

    2. The USA is going through the same thing right now.

So may of our political leaders were born in the mid-1940s.

    3. Choosing Chernenko was a big mistake, Gorbachev deserved to become the leader right after Andropov

    4. I remember the our subscription to the “Soviet Leader of the Month Club”. Good times, good times.
