    1. What’s the normal then? Here all sausages are pork, and not from the good parts of pork. Mainly eyelids and stuff like that. Only the premium sausages are made from deer or such.

    2. Pork is the normal meat for sausages all over Europe. Sure there are other meats in some sausages but Pork is the “normal” one here

    3. Pretty much every type of sausage here (Portugal) is made with pork and/or pork blood. Almost 100% positive it’s the same for most of Europe.

    4. Kirkland hot dogs are amazing, used to eat those every Sunday with my friends when we went for grocery runs. Whatever they’re using, they should keep using it.

    5. What a confusing post, isn’t pork the default? Everything else is a cheaper, sub-par option for hot dogs.

    6. I always thought seeing the word “premium” in front of “hot dog” whether it’s beef or pork was kinda ironic

Why is this interesting? European here, Id imagine this is expected. Do Americans get roadkill or something?

    8. … Isn’t pork the normal thing in the sausages? Like sure some or many sausages has other meats but the regular hotdog is a pork hotdog.

    9. Hot Dogs are originating from Frankfurter/Wiener Würstchen, which are 100% pork and always have been. All these weird Chicken and Beef hotdogs are modern inventions or stem from religious prescriptions like the ones by Jewish butchers and the like and are probably mostly restricted to the US.

    10. Pork sausages are the norm in the UK, sometimes you might have pork and beef, rarely just beef. In the summer we get lamb sausages too, which are probably the best on a BBQ.

    11. This is mostly interesting to Americans like me who should be asleep. Hotdogs aren’t thought of as sausage here.

    12. US, I would normally assume Hot Dog would refer to beef, whereas sausage would refer to pork

    13. In Australia frankfurts aren’t considered sausages. And a hot dog is the combination of bun and frankfurt, not the frankfurt itself.

And we have no idea what’s usually in a frankfurt

    14. The norm where I’m from is pork sausages. An all pork sausage is premium, otherwise it’s mostly only 42% pork (the parts of the pig you don’t want to think of) and then the rest of it is grain filler. The only time I’ve had a beef sausage is from five guys, that was a different taste, very dense in comparison.

It’s called a white hot, you kangaroo boxing pukes, and it’s OUR culture. Zweigles pride, babaaaay!

You do get a lot of beef sausage in Aus, but it’s not right. Pork is for sausages, anything else just….well it’s just wrong.

    17. I think his is normal everywhere without large Jewish or Muslim populations. Most of Europe this would be the norm

    18. For those wondering why this is mildly interesting, Its a costco thing. In the US the 1/4 pound ALL BEEF hotdog and drink combo for $1.50 is practically a cultural meme in the US… and international costco aficionados love to post the differences they find costcos outside the US.

This post belongs in the Costco sub more than it belongs here.

They’re all salivary glands and lymph nodes anyway so what difference does it make

    20. Swedes who have entire pork sausage walls in every supermarket:

OP is comparing the meat used at Costco in Australia with the original in the US.

I believe in the US stores they are 100% beef, and that is the “normal” for the brand no ?

      And they are fantastic.

I’m an Aussie that has lived in the US for a few years, in the 70’s, when I was a young boy.

Australian hot dogs, franks etc, are an embarrassment in comparison. Don Footy Franks….ughh.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to Costco…they used to sell Kirkland Dinner Franks…oh my god…It’s like I was a 7 year old boy again getting a hot dog from a street vendor in 1976 New York.

Also, mildlyintesting, the US Sausage McMuffin uses pork…here in Australia, it’s beef.
