Do you know who Canada’s biggest automakers are?
Ford, GM, Honda, Toyota, and Stellantis.
This move isn’t going to hurt the US much, because those Chinese EVs are still going to be kept out of the US market due to tariffs and other restrictions.
What this will do, is hurt the Great Lakes region industrial jobs that much of Canada’s industrial base relies on- it’s hard to justify making car parts in Canada if Canadians aren’t buying the cars made there with Canadian parts.
We’ve seen Chinese vehicles enter the markets of other countries- it usually doesn’t bode well for the industrial sectors of those countries.
