Black Americans already know they’ve always been second class in their own country, so anything that happens to them didn’t matter because they’re not seen as part of the American dream.
White Americans perceive themselves above violence from each other or from the state so I’m not surprised how more of them are feeling scared.
Also as a tangent this is what happens when a country is built on an ideology like manifest destiny and it’s never challenged internally or externally. The end point of supremacy is an ever shrinking in group.

Once again. We live in two different America. White america (yes I know it’s some not all) thinks the “crazy” things that happen are one offs. the government will sort itself and remove the bad actors, because checks and balances.
I also think some still think if we remove Trump it’ll get better. That he’s a benign tumor, not a cancer that has spread far and wide. this is a systematic problem and while I do subscribe to “one problem at a time” I don’t think it’s going to get better anytime soon.
