The thing to realize is that America is definitely not the only country that wanted Maduro out, which means you’re going to have a lot of different countries trying to make a deal with this woman. I will laugh my ass off if the United States ends up not being a part of that.

I personally believe the strike and capture was the right thing to do in principle. The Venezuelans here seem to think so, and I defer to them. I think relatively few Americans with opinions here have any clue what was going on in Venezuela and precisely why Venezuelans are ecstatic right now.
Anyway, the American public is very anti-interventionist. Especially in bad economic times. This is how the 2006 blue wave happened. Economic anxiety mixed with unnecessary foreign entanglements. The longer this is in the news, the worse it is for Republicans. Republicans know this and I’m concerned that it may cause them to force a politically convenient ending.
Edit: Oh yes, the tankies are fuming. I think some of them fundamentally dislike their own country. What a shame. Pretty disgusting their hatred for Trump outweighs their compassion for Venezuelans. Chanting “No Kings” while opposing the removal of a dictator. The dissonance.
