Used to watch MTV so much. It was the best background noise to just hanging out or whatever… and then if something cool came on you’d turn and watch the video… and then they’d do a video premiere and you’d get excited to see a brand new video or hear a brand new song.

Wow , remember growing up and watching music videos endlessly.
Meat loaf , Guns ‘n Roses (Nov rain), Bryan Adams and many many more !

    3. I heard you on the wireless back in ‘52…

lying awake intent on tuning in on you…

If I was young it didn’t stop you coming through…

    4. I had no idea they had all music channels. I only ever knew about their reality tv crap.

“Video killed the radio star” being the very first video they broadcasted was so badass.

and choosing the same song for their final broadcast is a beautiful nod to it.

I remember watching Depeche Mode Enjoy the Silence video at a friends house and seeing him dressed as a king in an isolated mountain scene. I want to be young again in the 80s

It went to crap when they started all those damn reality tv shows and stopped with the music videos and music.

    8. The end of an era.
I remember going out for drinks and watching Beavis and Butthead completely blasted after the bars closed.

    9. They changed the game. Or rather Puck singlehandedly changed the game. I don’t think too many people realize, that crazy dude is the reason everything is “reality” tv. It’s because of Puck. Without him the first “Real World” would have been a bust. Puck is the great grandfather of every piece of crap reality tv show that came after, and the good ones too. In a way, our societal collapse will be Pucks fault.

I haven’t watched or listened to anything MTV in at least 15 years. I thought they were already dead and gone.

    11. Old MTV in the 90s was peak television.  Music videos, celebrity death match, Tom Green, Jackass, Beavis and Butthead.

    12. I miss Total Request Live (TRL) in the late 90s. Life was so much simpler back then.

    13. Shut down their music channels?  They haven’t played any music in at least 20 years.

Wow. That’s kinda beautiful but sad.

Reminds me of the night The Loop shut down in Chicago and became a Christian rock station. Their last song was Highway to Hell.
