This is not what you think. You are viewing a 20th Century event with 21st Century eyes.
From the turn of the century up through the Depression, it was a common entertainment to stage “mock weddings”. It was just for the fun of pulling together resources (Bea’s got the gown, Vera’s got the veil…), and for the laughs. Sort of like a community play. (People were broke, and bored.)
Often the players were children. It made “cute” photo ops, for those who had access to cameras.
This is in no way a celebration of same-sex relationships.
Notice the “clergyman” is also a woman, which would never have been possible during this time period.
