To be fair, the idea behind crypto is there is no government behind it to, say, tariff ever country on earth or attack sovereign countries or otherwise fuck things up and cause the native currency to destabilize.
I heard it described as “Captain Planet villainy” in that you turn on the machine and it makes money by polluting

It would be so funny if after the last Bitcoin is mined all the Bitcoins get deleted and a thank you for playing messages get sent out to all holders.

Has anybody asked, what is calculated while mining? Maybe the result will be the prank?

It doesn’t surprise me one bit that MAGA went all-in on something completely made up that has turned into a massive grift and money laundering scheme.

I remember when I first bought bitcoin like 10 years ago. I couldn’t see any potential or use of crypto except buying drugs from silkroad so I didn’t buy more.
I’m constantly reminded of that but I still can’t see any real value with crypto.

Cryptocurrency is still a shitty scam tho. The math and technology behind it had potential but they just utilised them in all the wrong toxic ways.

There doesn’t seem to be a major obstacle to converting between Bitcoin and other currencies, so it’s definitely not imaginary. You could argue it’s more like a stock than a normal currency, thanks to the fluctuations and relatively few options for spending it directly, instead needing to convert first.
Also, bear in mind any currency is essentially imaginary. Look at the hyperinflation in Zimbabwe, for example. Just because your notes are printed by a government, it doesn’t mean they’re worth anything.
