Well that’s an excellent excuse I’d never considered for avoiding cooking for Christmas dinner!

    2. On the upside, when you get a new cooktop it’ll be an opportunity to learn how to clean it properly.

    3. Glass top stoves suck so much. Theyre slow to cook, can shatter like this, and keeping them looking good takes a mentally ill level of dedication

    4. Former repair tech here: the top is replaceable. It typically costs a few hundred dollars (US) but the installation is pretty simple. It DOES appear that the heat shield around the front right burner is damaged, this should also be replaced. The element itself may also be damaged, especially if something fell on it. These are a little more involved to replace.

My guess is you are looking at ~$500 in parts and ~250 in labor. This may vary based on exact model, availability, your location, etc.

    5. Are these the ceramic stove tops? We have a ceramic stove top. The cleanup is outrageously terrible. Get a drop of water with the heat, it looks like I made a full 10 course meal. Sorry this happened hope you get a new one that’s better.

    6. At least there isn’t anything important coming up you need to cook for /s
Sorry this happened to you today/yesterday of all days

It’s the beginning of a Russian forward deployment. First they sabotage the oven to soften the resistance. Everyone knows this.

    8. I mean, it looks like it hasn’t been cleaned very often. If you’re in an apartment, your landlord has to replace it.

    9. Meanwhile, my metal **Maytag** stove and other home appliances from the 80s are going strong and solid after all these years! 👊 *If it ain’t broke,* ***don’t replace it!***

    10. I’ve replace these twice (2 different stoves). Pretty easy job with basic tools. About 300$ CDN with shipping.

    11. That happened to us once. My sister leaned on the top and is broke the top of the stove. My parents just ended up buying a new stove completely. I can still hear my dad’s voice telling me the stove exploded and me thinking it exploded liked a bomb going off and damaging the house.

OP here – This post blew up quick (much like the stove).

Some context: This is my mom’s stove. She was making caramel with a pot that had no ventilation hole in the lid. Lid flew into the ceiling and walls are covered in undercooked caramel.
