Showing how mercury doesn’t get absorbed

    1. Paper towels absorb water because the cellulose in them attracts the hydrogen in the water. Mercury, being an elemental metal, shockingly does not have hydrogen.

If you ingest mercury it causes almost immediate explosive diarrhea and it can be absorbed though the skin.

    3. Man fuck the rest of these assholes in the comments. Ive never seen someone take a paper towel to friggin mercury and it was neat to watch it absorb all the dye after it looked like it was starting to make the mercury appear red tinted but was instead just very thinly spread out. Trying to act like having genuine interest in something is shameful. You wanna be exclusive and feel special? Go play russian roulette.

For reference, when i typed this, the only other comments were 3 or 4 people trying to shit on this post and anyone that took an interest in it. We aint having that kind of nonsense today. Yall Grinches can go manually harvest honey with your rough exteriors and can do attitudes.

How many times is this going to be posted. This is like the fifth time I’ve seen this today

FYI: Never, never, ever…fuck with mercury. Period. It’s highly toxic with zero known levels for safe exposure. Even for the dumbo wearing the latex gloves in this video. Just breathing it can fuck up your organs.

    7. The title is misleading. Mercury can be absorbed through the skin. It also gets accumulated over time. It will be extremely dangerous if inhaled. What is shown in this video is that mercury is not reacting to dye or mixed with like a true liquid would.

    8. Put your hand in there…it will absorb

And then you will also be the Silver Surfer, so win-win

    9. Gallium is nearly the exact same but with a higher melting point (needs to be a bit below body temp, so handling it keeps it liquid) and it’s totally non toxic. It does however leave an oxide layer that can stain your hands but just wash them, it’s non toxic and quite fun to play with. It’s also one of the main elements that made LEDs take off.

One other thing, don’t ever let elemental gallium touch exposed aluminum. You do need to strip the oxide layer off the aluminum but any scratch between the aluminum and gallium will let the gallium in, it will diffuse through the aluminum structure and basically time fall it, making it brittle like it’s aged centuries in minutes. This won’t be an issue for you, but it is an issue for airlines so sometimes getting this shipped to you is an issue. And it’s a dense metal, that is dangerous to airplanes, that can be liquid near room temp so do not walk through a fucking airport scanner with it.
