Wow. Those poor horses. Hope they are ok. That’s crazy to have them there in a parking lot. Crazy.

I almost went for a carriage ride around Central Park once, and just as I was waiting in the queue one of the horses lifted its tail and let rip a long fart on the poor driver.

    3. When you look closely at the beginning of the video you can see the pole that goes between the horses, and would normally be hooked to the front of the collar on both horses is down on the ground. This isn’t about driving horses around a parking center, this is an equipment malfunction that created a bad situation. Just an unfortunate accident that has nothing to do with location

Carriages are driven in some cities with a lot of traffic and the horses do just fine, so driving around a parking lot isn’t going to be any different.

ETA: let me clarify that I am not speaking about their care or quality of life. I am speaking specifically to the training and the fact that horses can work just fine in a location like this driving a carriage and handle the atmosphere without issue. Police horses are ridden but also work in cities. Horses are ridden down roads and around traffic quite a bit.

Welfare is a different aspect from training. Like all things animal related, there is good and bad in terms of welfare. There are plenty of people who do carriage rides in lots of different places and the horses are treated well and with proper care. There are also owners that do not treat their horses well and abuse and over work them, hence the attention brought on carriage rides in cities where their welfare has been neglected.

    4. Driving a carriage in an active parking lot is just asking for trouble, but going around in loop has nothing to do with it. Something startled the horses – a noise, some idiot touching one without warning, a vehicle getting too close.

    5. You smash some guys truck and it ends up costing more money than you made.

And no one cares about a sleigh ride when there’s no snow

    6. Who the hell wants to take a horse carriage ride around a random strip mall parking lot during holiday shopping season.

This must be what happened when they wrote about grandma getting run over. They figured they’d spice it up and call it a reindeer

In my hometown last night one of these was involved in a hit and run, the people that were in itwere ok but one of these horses is in not so great shape

    10. Ahh yes. Nothing puts me in the holiday spirit like riding in a horse drawn carriage in a strip mall parking lot

    11. Looks like the whiffletree’s connection to the carriage broke. I always wanted the chance to use the word whiffletree–it’s that t-shaped white cross bar you see hitting the ground. It’s job is to distribute the force of the horses evenly.

    12. I also hope those horses are ok but this was not a good idea. People don’t know how to drive in parking lots. You always know to expect the unexpected.
