Germany’s soul searching after ww1 went horribly wrong.

    1. Germany did have a national discussion on what went wrong in ww1. Instead of tackling its issues, german politicians of virtually all sides resorted to scapegoating the “betrayal of jews”.

Germany was an imperial power just like all the major powers it was fighting against. Unfortunately for them Germany didn’t become unified until very late in the 1800’s. They never really got a chance to do all the colonization and exploitation that the British, French, Spanish, Russians, Americans, and Ottomans got to do. However they weren’t all that different from the European powers they fought. It’s just that Kaiser Wilhelm II torched all the alliances that Otto Von Bismarck carefully crafted and it resulted in Germany going to war against almost the entire world.

Bethmann-Hollweg was an idiot. It was all his fault … and Tirpitz’. One riled up one too many nations into the war and the other made sure to waste some much needed resources.

Those memes usually fail to recognise a single and dangerous thing and that’s the fact that all of those major powers would have probably do the same against the Jews in a situation of dispair and hurted pride. Sadly Jews were the lowest and easiest target to blame of bad times and before the Great War, we could argue that France and Russia were far worst than Germany itself.

Same with Russia’s soul searching in the crappy 90s.

“This is craptacular! It must be because democracy doesn’t work in Russia.”

It wasn’t democracy’s fault. Rather, it was more because Boris Yeltsin had one of the dumbest economic policies in any major country.

    6. It feels like this is ripe for a bicycle spoke meme as well.

Germany’s strategy to win a European war depended on almost everything going right while requiring making enemies everywhere- going to war against France first (despite France not declaring war), violating Belgian neutrality and only then trying to win the slog against Russia.

With this perilous position, you’d think that Germany would have tried very hard to avoid war. Nope. Egged on their allies in the Balkans and then declared war on countries East and West. Great idea, what could go wrong.

And after the second war, their soul searching leads them to fund the ashkenazi occupation of palestine, and its brutal genocide

It didn’t help that France gave “soul searching” a bad name by imposing the Treaty of Versailles on Germany.
