More like they went back to Greece and started butchering each other to the point their civilization collapsed, they were overrun by Dorians, and they forgot how to write down things, only remembering doing so 2-3 centuries later, recording only vague descriptions of the campaigns in the East (e.g. Menelaus’ sojourn in Egypt in “Helen” of Euripides, inspired by oral traditions).
