Me explaining the lore like it’s Shakespeare, them just vibing for the explosions feels like two different shows.

Right in the middle of the scene where Dr. Mann is about to get blown out of the airlock, followed by the docking scene (Interstellar).
I’LL BE RIGHT BACK DON’T PAUSE IT.

Nah, we pausing this

I’ll either insist we pause it or pause it as soon as they are out of the room and unpause it right before they come back.
Or I’ll just sigh and understand they’re not going to get the same thing out of it that I did.

In the middle of a long epic movie just before Viggo Mortensen kicks the helmet. I will always pause for you brother.

This isn’t about the movie. It’s about respect for the shared experience. Pausing says ‘your presence in this narrative moment matters.’ ‘Just let it play’ says ‘my bladder is more important than the world you’re trying to share with me.’ It’s a profound, albeit petty, betrayal of the social contract

When Im watching a movie with someone and they say to let it play but then they come back and ask what the fuck happened (apparently they were wrong to think they could pay attention or they would watch what happened

And then they come back and ask permanently question about who that person on the screen is and what they are doing and why they are doing this.

That’s why when friends do this to me, i try to at least watch and understand the plot before saying “not for me “

Probably the most painful thing for me to come to terms with is that no one else in the world experiences life the way I do. No one, not a single other person, is going to like the things I like the way I like them. Even IF we happen to have an interest in common they’ll still like it in a different way that means I can’t share my feelings about it like I want to. I’m always having to hold back parts of myself so I don’t chase people away.

Then we stop watching because you don’t care about it
